One of the joys of a campfire is making a fire.
Among them, from chopping firewood into small pieces with a knife, to feather sticks slicing the firewood as thinly as a feather and stacking it to light the flame, these are the essence of making a fire, and being able to complete these steps with a knife is one of the most important. Where the fun lies.
Although I hope the whole family can enjoy this fun together,
But will you cut your hand on the blade? Will you accidentally break the blade? It seems difficult to let a child without strength chop or chip firewood...
Because of this, will it be the father who ultimately takes on this role?
It would be much more enjoyable if the whole family could share in the joy of making a fire, not just the father.
Even people with less strength can easily split firewood, and even those without skills can easily chip wood. Since the front end is not sharp, even beginners can use it with confidence.
"Let the whole family enjoy making a fire together."
We created a unique ax specifically for making fire, a concept that didn't exist before. Here are our five key features!
1. Due to the protruding design at the tip, the blade is not easily worn.
"バトニング" is a technique of splitting wood with a knife. It is especially useful for splitting long and slender firewood, which is usually difficult to split with an axe.
Pressing the knife against the firewood and then hitting the back of the knife with another piece of "different wood" can easily split the firewood, so this has become a must-have skill for camp enthusiasts when making fires and has attracted widespread attention.
For beginners, splitting firewood can be fraught with danger.
"Unable to control the blade well, resulting in injury." "Excessive force damaged the tip of the blade."
Does anyone have such experience?
In order for everyone to use it with peace of mind, we designed a protrusion called "Ishibashi (いしづき)" on the front end of the knife to protect the blade.
If you accidentally hit the stone with the blade while chopping firewood, causing damage to the blade, I believe this happens to everyone. This situation may affect your mood throughout the day. However, because our thallium has a stone-protruded design, you can exert force to chop wood without worrying about the condition of the ground.
In addition, when using thallium or a knife to chop wood, the blade often gets stuck on the wood-chopping table and needs to be taken out every time. Does this make you feel a little annoyed? With the design of the stone protrusion, the blade will not easily get stuck on the firewood splitting table, making the firewood splitting process smoother.
2. The front end is not sharp, reducing the chance of injury.
When chopping firewood, have you ever tried to pull out a clamped blade, but accidentally stabbed yourself with the tip of the knife or thallium?
With our forged wood splitting thallium, there is a lower risk of injury as the front end is not sharp, but rather has a rounded design, which also gives you added peace of mind.
3. Use the 6mm extremely thick forged blade to chop wood easily.
The blade is 6 mm thick, which is quite thick among cutting tools used for splitting firewood. This thickness makes it easier to push the firewood away from the left and right sides when splitting firewood. Compared with a thinner blade, you can split the firewood with easier force.
In addition, the cross-section of the blade presents a slightly rounded shape similar to a clam shell, which is called a "clam blade". This design increases the strength of the blade and reduces the possibility of edge wear. This makes it more capable of chopping firewood.
4. No need to worry about breakage, sturdy full-blade construction.
In traditional knives, the handle and blade are separated. When chopping firewood, the connection between the blade and the handle may be under pressure and there is a risk of breakage.
However, with a full-blade construction made of steel from the blade to the handle, you can hit it hard without any worries! This design reduces the risk of breakage and is very strong. You can use it with confidence.
We use silicon-manganese steel with high hardness and high toughness as the material. This special steel is often used in cultivator claws, automotive leaf springs, etc. where impact resistance is required.
We hot forge it through a 600-ton giant stamping machine to make the blade very tough and durable.
Even if it receives a strong impact when chopping firewood, the blade is not easy to wear or break. This is an orthodox wood thallium with excellent durability.
5. With its excellent center of gravity balance, you can perform enjoyable cutting with ease.
After chopping the firewood into small pieces, the next step is to make the feather sticks. Making flammable feather sticks requires a lot of shavings to create long, thin feathers, which is a very important step.
Controlling the cutting edge is extremely important, and the key lies in the balance of the insert's center of gravity.
If, like ordinary thallium, the head is too heavy, it will be easily shaken when used, and it requires great effort to control, making it difficult to accurately grasp the target.
If, like a knife with a full-blade construction, the handle side is too heavy, you'll be relying primarily on your arm to control the blade, which can make it difficult to perform delicate work and create delicate feathers.
In the "Forged Wood Splitting Thallium", by concentrating the overall center of gravity at the center, the appropriate weight at the tip of the blade can be used to easily cut wood with light force. At the same time, there is also a moderate weight on the handle side, making it easier to control the head, thus enabling the creation of delicate feathers.
The overall length of 24.5 cm also makes it as compact as a knife, convenient and easy to use.
We're also particular about the holsters that come with them.
We believe that packaging is also an important part of the work. That’s why we want to use materials you can recommend with confidence.
About an hour's drive from our factory, located in Himeji, also in Hyogo Prefecture, Sanyo Co., Ltd. with a history of more than 100 years is Japan's top high-quality leather manufacturer, and we use their "fully vegetable tanned leather."
Sanyang Company’s fully vegetable tanned leather will be soaked in pits containing tannin liquid for about a month and gradually tanned.
Therefore, without damaging the leather fiber layer, it maintains its toughness and strength, becoming a real piece of "leather". This feature is ideal for protecting sharp edges and fragile tip portions.
The job of making this leather into packaging is undertaken by master Toyooka Tata, who is also located in Hyogo Prefecture. This triple collaboration of "Himeji's Leather" × "Toyooka's Leather Bag" × "Miki Blade" has created high-quality leather packaging, and this is our standard configuration.
Brass buckles provide a decorative accent, and you can also enjoy changing them over time.
From "Banshu Miki", the hometown of knives.
This product was born in Miki City, Hyogo Prefecture. This area was once known as "Banshu Miki" and was one of Japan's leading tableware producers. To this day, we continue to produce high-quality tableware. Kanzawa Iron Works, which developed FEDECA, is one of them. Since its founding in 1895 by gathering blacksmiths, we have continued to hone the spirit of craftsmanship for more than a century. Today we have many products for professionals, such as drills and other woodworking tools.
Precautions for use
Clubbing is the art of chopping wood with an ax or knife.
Split the firewood by pressing the ax head against the firewood and hitting the back of the ax head with another piece of wood.
Please pay attention to the following points when striking a hatchet.
・Do not knock the handle. Doing so may cause the handle to break.
・Do not hit the back of the ax head with metal such as a hammer.
・Please do it on a firewood cutting platform or tree, do not do it directly on the ground.
・Do not break knotted hardwood.
・When using a machete, please wear protective gloves.
Blade care
Forged hatchets use sharp, high-carbon steel, so rust prevention measures are critical to the long-term use of the blade.
The entire surface of the "forged hatchet" is coated with black fluororesin to protect the entire surface, but the uncoated blade requires anti-corrosion measures.
Wipe off the moisture after use and apply anti-rust oil such as camellia oil for long-term use.
Handle care
When shipped, FEDECA's special carnauba wax is applied to the wood of the handle. The "carnauba wax" used in this carnauba wax has the highest hardness and melting point (melting temperature) among vegetable waxes, and is a 100% natural wax strong enough to be used as car wax. When the surface dries or the waterproofing effect disappears, use this wax or commercially available wood product wax to restore the original luster. The more often you apply, the greater the protection, so apply it every time.
* Locking agent is used for the screws that fix the handle. Do not attempt to disassemble the product, forcibly turning the screws may damage the screw grooves.
