The demand for air cushions is particularly high in winter. During severe winters, the lowest temperature near the top of the Northern Alps often drops to -25°C, so during development, the target R value (warmth index) was set at R6.5, which is enough to cope with extreme low temperatures of -30°C and leaves a certain buffer space.

There are many kinds of air cushion structures, such as:

• Styles filled with insulation material
• Layered structure to suppress air convection
• Combining the above two designs

When designing ASP-R7, the balance between storage size, weight and cost was taken into consideration, and a multilayer structure combining TPU film and heat-reflective PET film was finally chosen.

The advantage of this structure is that the thicker the air cushion, the more air there is inside, and the higher the R value. But there are also disadvantages: increased thickness will make the surface bumps more obvious, affecting sleeping comfort, and increased material will also increase weight. To solve these problems, Arata continuously conducted strength tests, fine-tuned the welding spacing, welding pattern and internal material thickness, and finally found the most ideal balance point.

The common rectangular style "Regular" has been carefully thought out. Many rectangular air cushions on the market are 64cm wide. However, for users who choose a 183cm length, although the 64cm width provides enough space, it will also increase the weight. Arata finally decided to set the width to "56cm", which is about 8cm narrower than usual. After testing, even for men with broad shoulders and larger bodies, their arms rarely slip out of the air cushion and they still maintain a comfortable feeling!

ASP-R7 is different from other brands' products. We provide two large square TPU repair sheets of 7cm x 7cm.

If it is a minor puncture damage, the small repair piece included with other brands may be sufficient. However, in an outdoor environment, the situation is unpredictable, and we believe that small repair patches may not be able to cope with all emergencies. The natural environment is unpredictable, and accidents may happen even if you are careful. Based on this personal experience, we decided to include a larger patch so that users can be more flexible in dealing with various emergencies.
